E3 Immediate reaction

While I would like to give (and still plan on giving) my full response to E3 coverage after the conclusion of the event, I, as an unabashed Nintendo Fanboy, HAD to respond IMMEDIATELY to Nintendo’s keynote press conference.  In short: they. Went. NUTS!  First we were given previews of Zelda: Skyward Sword.  Another Zelda title for the Wii?  Well is it… It’s NOT a remake?!?  But we just got Twilight Princess four years ago!!!  Not that I’m complaining, but I’m starting to feel spoiled Nintendo.  And from what I’ve seen, from the art style to new MotionPlus controls, this game will not only maintain the Zelda franchise’s reputation, but restore a bit of powerhouse status to the Wii.

Then we were treated to trailers for Kirby’s Epic Yarn, Metroid: Other M, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Wii Party, Mario Sports Mix (which I for one am PUMPED for), and GoldenEye Wii.  Plus a few handheld haymakers as well.

First was Golden Sun: Dark Dawn.  Yes.  Just yes.  The original gameplay and visual charm seems to remain intact, with new graphical flourishes that at this stage in the game have already got me digging for my copies of the first two entries in the series.  Then came the biggest announcement of the day.

When the 3DS showed up on the screen, I knew it was gonna be a spectacle of a demo.  What I didn’t expect was the launch library announcement:

  • Street Fighter IV 3D
  • Resident Evil: Revelations
  • Kingdom Hearts
  • Saints’ Row
  • Nintendogs + Cats
  • Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle

And then the biggest and most impressive handheld announcement Nintendo has ever dropped: Kid Icarus: Uprising.  Part on rails aerial shoot-em-up, part platforming action game, all awesome.  This game looks gorgeous and watching the trailer, it was obvious that this game was MADE for 3D.  Pit is back, and this game will rock.

As I’ve said, I’ll give a full reaction once the dust clears on E3, but for the time being just know that Nintendo may be running the show this year (Sorry Kinect and Move!).

Oh and Ocarina of Time 3D.  Yeah.
